Increase the Maximum Sentence for Animal Cruelty

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/61926

Greatness of Nation

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, the maximum penalty for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is a fine of £20,000 (an amount of £20,000 is rarely, if ever, imposed) or six months imprisonment, or both.

We would like to see the current law amended and the term of imprisonment increased to 2 years at the very least, bringing it in line with other serious criminal offences.

6 MONTHS is the MAXIMUM that can be given and it is no longer acceptable.
